Working in the Prisons
A Haitian prison is not a place you want to be. The conditions are deplorable.
The justice system that put you there is questionable, at best.
There is no food or services provided by the prison. Sanitation is beyond what you can imagine. It is common for many men and women to die in prison as a direct result of these conditions.
Liberation of Women Program
There are currently almost 50 women in the prison. Not one of those women had seen a judge, nor had access to a lawyer, nor had they been legally convicted of a crime; they are held based on accusation alone. Often, these accusations are false. Four lawyers, including Children’s Hope lawyer Nathanael, are working on these women’s dossiers to get them in front of a judge to seek justice for their cases. Because of the efforts of these lawyers, 11 women have been freed so far.
