1.   HOME  STUDY

What is a Home Study?
A Home Study is merely a report required by adoption officials affirming that you are suitable to be a parent(s) of a child and can provide the stability and home environment that a child needs. It consists of at least  2 interviews and a home visit. You will likely be asked to write a brief autobiography and to submit the following photocopies (not originals):

  1. Photocopies of Birth Certificates for each family member.
  2. Photocopy of Marriage Certificate.
  3. Photocopy of letter from local police stating "no criminal record".
  4. Photocopy of financial statement.
  5. Photocopy of medical from your Doctor on his/her letterhead stating positive condition of physical/mental health.
  6. Reference letters
  7. Post-Placement agreement must be completed and included in the Home Study.
2.   CIS  ( Citizenship and Immigration Services)

Because you are adopting from abroad, you need to get their approval for a visa for the child.

  1. If you do not have the forms for an adoption packet application you may either:
  2. Call the CIS for the forms. 1-800-870-FORMS or download from http://www.bcis.gov/graphics/index.htm  
  3. Fill out the I-600A only.
  4. Send photocopy of Birth certificates, or proof of citizenship.
  5. Send photocopy of divorce decree if applicable.
  6. Send photocopy of marriage certificate if applicable.
  7. Favorably recommended home study. 
  8. $670.00 plus $80 per person for finger 6+prints, must be cashier's check or money order!  CIS Forms and Fees

 

3.     DOSSIER

All of the below documents must be originals. 

  1. Send application to Children's Hope now and begin to collect all documents. Our Adoption Guide and your Russia Program Consultant will give you clear direction for the following:

     
    bullet A letter of application to adopt
    bullet Home Study/Copy of Agency license/Conclusion of Home Study / Agreement: 4 post visits/social worker license (if applicable)
    (Must be separately notarized and apostilled.)
    bullet CIS approval (I-171-H)
    bullet Copies of Passport(s)
    bullet Birth Certificates
    bullet Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
    bullet Divorce Decree(s) (if applicable)
    bullet Medical(s) report for each parent in the home, and Drs. License
    bullet Employer letter(s)
    bullet Financial Statement
    bullet State or local police report
    bullet Power of Attorney allowing CHI staff to represent you in Russia
    bullet Parental Power of Attorney (if one parent must leave early)
    bullet Statement of Legal Residence
    bullet Questionnaire of the Candidate to Adopt
    bullet State Adoption Laws -- you will get this from the Home Office.
    bullet Registration of Children in Russian Consulate (see guide)
    bullet Parents Post Placement Agreement letter (see guide)
    bullet Dossier Photos. Passport sized photos for Visa(s)
